Loudoun Valley Community and Child Care Center
Additions and Renovations
Because of our commitment to restore and maintain the stature of historic civic buildings, Maginniss + del Ninno Architects was chosen as the architect for the Loudoun Valley Community Center Renovation. Built in 1923 as the County’s first elementary school, the building now houses services for 180 preschool children, after-school and adult programs, and recreation programs.
The project focused on modernizing the building and reprogramming it to meet the community’s current community program needs. The design includes an addition to house administrative offices and preschool classrooms. A new elevator, entrance, and other improvements provide full accessibility. New toilet rooms and enlarged classrooms meet the current Virginia education standards for pre-schools. The project also features a modernized gymnasium and a fitness center. LEED strategies were employed to improve the performance of the building envelope, as well as the building systems and site work. The completed project met the LEED v. 2.2 Silver standard.
Maginniss + del Ninno Architects worked closely with the design committee and the Purcellville Board of Historic Review and the Purcellville Board of Historic Review to return important exterior and interior features to the original 1920s architectural style, so this historic building can continue to play a vital role in the Purcellville community.
