Browne Academy
Renovation
In 1995, Maginniss + del Ninno Architects modified the Academy’s strategic master plan to include a phased implementation of major capital improvements to the 10-acre campus. The long narrow site features a stream, existing buildings, and a significant slope that poses major challenges to vehicular circulation and site organization. With the addition of the 6-8 grade classes, M+dN designed the new 16,000 sqft. Middle School Building, strategically located on the East side of the existing administration and academic buildings to define an Academic Quadrangle. Other projects included site improvements such as new access roads, parking, athletic fields, and bridges, as well as renovation of an existing building for the pre-school program and a new swimming pool and pool house.
In 2005, M+dN completed Phase I of the final building for the Browne Academy Campus, a 22,000 square foot multi-purpose activity and arts building. The building houses a gymnasium with a stage for assemblies and performances, an art classroom, and a maintenance facility. It will be expanded to include a cafeteria, lockers, offices, and additional classrooms for music.
Over the past fifteen years, all of the capital improvements have been completed under the design leadership of Maginniss + del Ninno Architects. Recently complete is a new preschool that was created by repurposing an adjacent residential building purchased by the school.
